Since Mark Adams, II was in middle school, he'd been interested in the genre of fantasy. Through both video games and movies, Adams enjoyed the idea of swords and sorcery that leapt from the past and into the present through modern media. Yet, whenever he gazed at the proposed ideal fantasy, he would often look around to see no representation of people of color, and what he did find was riddled with stereotypes derived from a singular story. Fantasy is a genre that argues even the most mystical of miracles as being possible, yet rarely does that come to fruition in action.  His work, as such, aims to showcase not just the historical complexity of societies on the African Continent, but also to highlight the visual themes present and tell stories of Afro-fantasy through visuals. Fantasy is a genre where anything can happen, and it should also be a genre where anyone can view and enjoy it, for the idea of someone looking at Adams' work and being inspired by it drives him to create art.
